Barbaresco Forno Attilio 1971

This is one of the many out-of-zone merchants who bought Barbaresco from the producers and then bottled it.

The writing on the label is very interesting “Vini finissimi delle colline albesi. Garantiti non gasati. Spumante naturale” which we can translate as follows: “Fine wines from the Alba hills. Guaranteed still. Natural sparkling wine.” This is quite strange. “Barbaresco” wine is declared as a natural sparkling wine. Does this suggest that, in those days, a brief refermentation in the bottle was possible, giving the wine some perlage? In light of this, the wording “Guaranteed still / guaranteed non-carbonated” seems appropriate, as if to assure customers that the slight perlage was not due to the addition of CO2.
